Serious question: If you willingly use generative "AI", do you believe you're immune to or sufficiently protected from de-skilling, cognitive decline, and what's commonly known as "AI psychosis"? If yes: What makes you believe that? How are you special? If no: Why do you still use it, given that you're aware of the risks to your cognition? Do you just accept it?

"Nuh uhh! You have to disprove that my chatbot is a person." is the kind of argument I MIGHT spend time on, if it came from a six year old. From an adult it's just embarrassing.

I don't envy any server admins this week, especially if they're running any PHP stuff. Holy shit this bad. If you run anything based on PHP, like Wordpress or Nextcloud, take it offline RIGHT NOW, then update your PHP installation. Also make sure your system's SSL certs are up to date.

A lot of cis people still think that HRT medication is something that trans people do for fun, like it's recreational drugs or something. Instead you should really think about it like insulin for people with diabetes or L-thyroxine for people with thyroid deficiency.

Fuck. A community center for trans people in Berlin was raided by the cops. Don't ever tell me history isn't repeating itself. https://www.rbb24.de/panorama/beitrag/2026/10/razzia-berlin-trans-zentrum.html

Is anyone in or near Berlin looking for a rigged Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K with cage, D-TAP battery, and SSD? Any video creators out there looking for an upgrade maybe? I'm looking to sell mine as I don't do much studio video stuff these days. (boosts welcome)

We'll have to do "AI" rehab for folks once this hype is over. I'm not even kidding.

"AI will solve the simple problems so humans can focus on the hard ones" is such a ridiculous fail at understanding anything about how humans acquire skills and knowledge. Humans HAVE TO solve simple problems and then advanced problems in order to learn how to solve the really hard ones. This is not optional. Good luck solving any difficult problems in the future with a generation of people who spent their entire education typing every problem into a chatbot's prompt box.

So "AI" coding so far ... Users are unhappy because there's more bugs. Developers are unhappy because it sucked the last bit of joy out of their profession. Executives are unhappy because the productivity gains didn't materialize. Who except the vendors of the coding agents and by proxy Nvidia is this for again?

If I want to write to my MEP about the "EU KIDS ACT", is there a template or a list with the relevant talking points? I don't think I have it all present in my head, not enough to make a good argument towards a politician who may not know anything nor really care.

The idea of "AI alignment" should not be interpreted as "does the little guy in the computer want the same thing as I do?" but as "does this software that I'm using contain bugs that introduce undesired side effects?" An LLM that produces false responses or an agent doing unexpected things is not categorically different from a shell script that has a forgotten `rm -rf ~/*` somewhere that gets triggered by some edge case condition. Scale doesn't change the...

I want every "AI" doomer to actually walk me through their little sci-fi horror scenario. Tell me how and why exactly an LLM kills all humans or whatever you claim this week. Don't just say "uhh, it'll be so powerful". Tell what you think it'll do, how it'll be prompted to do it, and why it couldn't be stopped, step by step.

One of the outcomes that programming produces is understanding. By building a system you gain knowledge about it as it is created. There's probably no better way of gaining that information. I would even argue it's the more important outcome than the actual executable code. Using "AI" coding removes this outcome entirely, so why should I ever want that?

Funny how "democratizing computing" is used as a pro-genAI argument, while it's not even true, this isn't democratic at all, but nobody ever talks about "democratizing blacksmithing" even though a very large portion of people use kitchen knives. The idea that everyone should be able to do everything without relying on others is counter to the entire course of human history. And of course genAI doesn't actually remove the dependency on other people. It just abstr...

I'm not even expecting to make a living off art and research. I'd be totally fine with a part time job that covers rent and necessities but leaves time and energy for art and research. That used to be a thing in my lifetime.

RE: https://ohai.social/@jascha/117007278104048571 Same, but with a much lower cost threshold and for different reasons in addition to the ones already mentioned: I want some friction in my purchases. I know I lack the self-control to be responsible with spending on my phone that's always readily available. Having to boot upy PC introduces enough pause to make me think about what I actually want and need.
