Trump’s new press secretary, who has repeatedly asserted she is an attorney, seemingly isn’t. Not in California, not in China. https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/2026/10/13/katie-zacharia-calls-herself-lawyer-legal-experts-arent-sure/ Archive: https://archive.is/4nVBc It’s a continued requirement that you have to be unethical to work in this administration.

This explains why the product shots looked so weird on the models — plaids with perfect lines, weird folds, and odd artifacting when zoomed. The cardboard cut-out model was just the uncanny bonus. Ok, tab closed. (I cropped the photo to show the message buried in the bottom left.)

Nic Steenhout on ‘AI’ screen reader testing: https://nicolas-steenhout.com/ai-screen-reader-testing/ I added it to my post about speech viewer logs (with some bonus nuggets from Weston Thayer): https://adrianroselli.com/2020/08/speech-viewer-logs-of-lies.html#Update09 (anchor) #accessibility #a11y

Aaron Gustafson made a web component for sortable tables: https://www.aaron-gustafson.com/notebook/sortable-tables-with-progressive-enhancement/ I’m a fan (given many other terrible efforts). Especially the row grouping. If you use it, I noted 3 things to consider / adapt: https://adrianroselli.com/2021/04/sortable-table-columns.html#Update01 (anchor) #HTML #accessibility #a11y

“Accessibility-first screen reader prediction” is not a solution, folks. Parsing a DOM and building your _own_ accTree to then *emulate* how desktop screen readers _might_ announce a page as if *maybe* using read-all just ends up putting more burden on human testers. Never mind missing the bugs, features, heuristics, and more built into a DOM parser and screen reader engine. Unless your goal is satisfy a dashboard while removing humans from your #accessibility testing. #a11y #ScreenReader

See how many visible WCAG violations you can find in this 25 second clip from https://corpowid.ai/blog/the-eu-ai-act-and-accessibility-how-they-intersect-in-2026 ! One hint — my window is 1,280px wide. You don’t have to share. We don’t do free audits for #overlay companies here. As always, adding overlays adds risk, adds barriers, adds harm. #a11y #accessibility

Nextdoor keeps trying to get me to “Discover [my] neighborhood,” but it does so by using slop photos for my city and neighborhood that have no relation to reality (and make the not-my-street look a little gross). Strong signal to not join the platform that can’t be arsed to use existing imagery. #Buffalo

Also top of page 2: https://storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.uscourts.njd.601006/gov.uscourts.njd.601006.12.0.pdf What you get when the agents & agency get incentives to detain and the detainee is sent to a private prison that gets paid to detain him. The government scamming taxpayers and counting on racism to let it go unnoticed.

Went to a show with a lot of hippies in the crowd for the first three acts and was afraid I’d have to do all the skanking for the ska final act but then the 2 tone started and skankers came out of the woodwork and I may have thrown out my hip.

I know nothing about LabX Media Group. Is my decades-old subscription to Scientific American about to bring me enshittified content instead? Anyone have experience with LabX Media Group beyond what I can find on its site? “LabX Media Group Acquires Scientific American, Expanding Global Science Media Portfolio” https://www.prweb.com/releases/labx-media-group-acquires-scientific-american-expanding-global-science-media-portfolio-302807304.html

I missed that Georgetown not only purged posts from its former provost, it also took down the entire blog. So this banger exists only in the Wayback: “Eating our Seed Corn” (about ‘AI’) https://web.archive.org/web/20240703032246/https://blog.provost.georgetown.edu/eating-our-seed-corn/ Found because I was updating a post on my site and this link was dead.

/me starts reading post on building an accessible modal dialog using `<dialog>`. /me comes to this sub-head about five paragraphs in. Me: “Ok then.” /me ignores remaining 2,000 words, closes tab, adds site to block list. Me: “That was a good use of everyone’s time.”

RE: https://mastodon.social/@firefoxwebdevs/116992048337520434 I appreciate this both acknowledges the error and credits the resources. Something I’d like to see more of from browsers (looks askance at Chrome). Key takeaways: • `aria-label` is code smell, • testing in only VoiceOver is always insufficient (as is testing in only one SR in general, but VO compounds it).

I’m now afraid this shit-crony will come back to Buffalo to lick his turd-crony wounds and leave poop-crony stains all over town again as he works to crony-up once more. Thanks to this case, I now know that in NY, calling someone a “crony” is non-actionable rhetorical hyperbole. Crony. https://bsky.app/profile/joshuajfriedman.com/post/3ml54ifdlrk2x
