  @human3500 Earliest memory I can clearly identify is my third birthday party. I was at the dining room table with a bunch of neighbour kids, and there was a cake with candles and a merry-go-round ornament on it. The curtains were closed to make it dark. That would have been 1960.

  The landlord of this medical-dental building near us recently decided to install gates and charge for parking. Previously this lot would be pretty full during the day. I wonder when revenues will pay back the cost of the gates.... #corporatestupidity

  @human3500 That's what we get for adopting Gallic plurals into a language with Germanic possessives. Except some of the Germanic plurals survived.

  @stephanie I recall similar points being made when they wanted to build the new Civic Hospital on a piece of the Experimental Farm - no, there's history going back generations in those plots; you can't just resume the same research somewhere else.

  @stephanie Definitely disrupted my last night's sleep - took forever to get back to sleep and even then I kept waking up. Seriously, if I've got DND set, I'm probably not in a situation where I'm going to rush outside on the off chance that particular car is driving by at that exact moment.

  @stephanie A few years ago, I had Google Translate render "parking lots" as "beaucoup de stationnement". I hope it's gotten a little better than that by now.
