#ThreeGoodThings #3goodthings 1) Got to vent at work and get really heated over stuff I cannot control in any way. The adrenaline was nice, even if my words can’t do a damn thing. 2) Connected with some former colleagues who left because of/got fired by the leader who just got forced out. 3) Late getting home for reasons that included some yahoo throwing a bicycle onto the #BART tracks in SF, and managed to get a decent dinner made.

#ThreeGoodThings #3goodthings 1) There was a bit of a leadership purge at work, yet my boss and I remain employed. 2) Last night there were many tears from the kiddo. Frustrated at arbitrary teacher decisions that lowered her grades. Tonight she feels confident she can ace this week’s tests. 3) Simple dinner, early-ish bed.

#3goodthings #ThreeGoodThings 1) Spouse returned home safely. 2) Happy with dinner I made. 3) Finished re-watching Kiki’s Delivery Service with the kiddo. It’d been long enough that she had not remembered most of it. (Nausicaa of The Valley of the Wind is still her favorite Studio Ghibli film.)

#ThreeGoodThings #3goodthings 1) Spouse returns home from the East Coast tomorrow. (And also, the house is in decent shape. 😉) 2) Tortie girl cat has taken to sleeping on me. (This will likely end when my spouse is home.) 3) #Aikido today - training time got generally more scarce lately, so I am grateful for whatever I can get. (Dojo’s fine and busy. I’m just having to shift priorities a little extra these days.)

#3goodthings #ThreeGoodThings 1) A day with the kiddo, doing normal things. That meant her belly could handle almost-normal amounts of food! And also that we got to hang out and talk most of the day (when we weren’t doing homework alongside each other). 2) MIL’s aphasia is mild, from what my spouse reports. It’s easier to work through in person than on the phone. 3) Stunning kind of day that SF gets in #Septober. While kiddo was at a clarinet lesson, I got to sit on top of whatever that hill is...

#ThreeGoodThings #3goodthings Bit of a hiatus, but back! 1) Spouse is on the other coast helping her mom with the next round of medical appointments. The good part is that my MIL seems at the moment to be cooperating with treatment and trying to eat better. (A new development!) 2) Kiddo had a stomach bug for a couple of days, but seems better now. 3) Brushing up before a panel discussion next month on what was my thesis topic. Turns out people caught up with my interpretation of some problems -...

#3goodthings #ThreeGoodThings 1) Fight at work led to some better understanding. (At least for me.) 2) #Elections in my area are either a slam-dunk for the correct person or between “decent” and “better.” That is a lucky situation that I appreciate. 3) Feeling like I am finally getting into good shape, after a few years of alternating progress and backsliding. (Dumb, but had to let go of the comfort of feeling bad about myself. Why is that so damn hard?🤦‍♂️)

#ThreeGoodThings #3goodthings 1) Got up hours before dawn to review with someone a presentation he needed to make to a c-suite this morning. Because he had jury duty. And then the meeting got rescheduled. That’s the good thing. Didn’t have to present. 2) Pretty much prepped for later this week when my spouse is leaving me & the kiddo behind to go be caregiver for her mom. It’s good to have a plan. 3) Got my new messenger-style garment bag for my #bicycle commute. Testing it in the morning!

#ThreeGoodThings #3goodthings 1) Kiddo felt good after taking the #PSAT this morning. 🧠 2) Went afterwards to picnic at the bottom of Stern Grove. Gorgeous weather! 3) Gorgeous gallery exhibitions at Catharine Clark https://cclarkgallery.com/events/68/overview/ and Hosfelt Galleries https://hosfeltgallery.com/ The Under Pressure performance as part of Nina Katchadourian’s Seat Assignment project gave me chills in a good way. https://www.sfmoma.org/artwork/2015.727.A-D/

#3goodthings #ThreeGoodThings 1) The week is done. OMG did we all ever need the week to be over. 2) There is now a shorter unit of political time than the #Scaramucci. 3) #USPol is demonstrating the true meaning of #schadenfreude. In the right context, it isn’t mean - it’s cathartic and joyful. And as one of their erstwhile number pronounced a while back, “The best is yet to come!”😏

#3goodthings #ThreeGoodThings 1) Got to celebrate some colleagues who have worked with us nearly as long as I have been alive. (Healthcare is still where you can have a whole career in one place and feel great about it.) 2) Kiddo’s birthday is more of a season than a day. Next event is an extended family dinner - now finally planned. (Spouse & I have adjacent b-days, so that’s a season, too.) 3) Hearing kiddo’s joy about exercising the new possums at the children’s museum.

#ThreeGoodThings #3goodthings 1) My phalaenopsis orchid at work has been blooming since May. Same blooms. I’m kind of in awe of it. And it sent up new bloom stalks last week and over the weekend. Thriving on neglect, really. 2) Happy with my own cooking this evening. 3) Planning for a trip to celebrate an uncle-in-law’s 95th birthday at the end of the year. And his wife the aunt-in-law’s 94th the same week. Haven’t been out there for the Christmas holidays in almost 20 years. (That whole side o...

#3goodthings #ThreeGoodThings 1) Took a day off. Massively good thing. 2) Kiddo (school holiday) and I both had a huge amount of homework. So we worked through our day off, but got to do it together. So at least there was that. 3) Nice dinner at the local vegan spot.

#ThreeGoodThings #3goodthings 1) Spouse & I took the kiddo to see #MonRovia at the #CastroTheater for her 17th birthday tonight. It was a beautiful show in a beautiful venue. 2) Every year, the #BlueAngels perform for her birthday, and pat myself on the back for having the foresight to plan that for her. (Used to bug me how much money gets spent on flexing military muscle. Lately I think those precision flying shows may be the ideal use for those weapons.) 3) Kiddo tends to request #Bao for...

#3goodthings #ThreeGoodThings 1) Finished the ADHD 2.0 book. Appropriately quick read. Insightful - I learned a lot in its 135 pages (there are some pretty serious appendices!). Recommended. 2) Held a work meeting that involved a bit of a gamble - hoping to shift culture & stop some mean behavior. And I think I got lucky & found the right balance. 🤞 3) Gorgeous day. Couldn’t take photos as I rode down Market Street around dawn, but the few clouds lit by early sunrise looked like what th...

#ThreeGoodThings #3goodthings 1) Back to #Aikido! 2) Got asked to be #uke for one of the kyu test candidates for the next round. (Asked to be the test partner and “take falls for” a testing student. As I learned, my ukes were combination teachers/partners/coaches/cheerleaders, and I try to pay that forward when I get asked myself.) 3) Lunch with a former boss & mentor who became a friend. (And a collector of my spouse’s work and now they’re even closer with each other!)

#3goodthings #ThreeGoodThings 1) Gorgeous #SanFrancisco #Septober day. This is our real summer. 2) Went to the gym instead of to Aikido today - felt way better, but partner practice is a little too intimate and risky if there was a risk I could be contagious still. 3) Managed to put my Nidan (2nd degree) certificate into the frame in front of my Shodan, so both are safe but I don’t have to buy another frame.

#3goodthings #ThreeGoodThings 1) The outage at Mas.to got resolved. 2) Going to speak (on a panel) at a conference in Chicago. Haven’t been there in more than 30 years (land of several exes). Looking forward to it. 3) Still this ick lingers - but so far it hasn’t escalated into a full-blown cold or whatever. The continued low-level blah is annoying but worlds better than it could be!

#ThreeGoodThings #3goodthings 1) This cold or whatever it is has stayed low-level. For three days, mind you, but still mild so far 2) Kiddo’s volunteering at the #RandallMuseum and helping with their rescued wildlife - and I guess they brought in a possum today. 3) Solved a puzzle at work (I think - need to validate, but looks promising).

#ThreeGoodThings #3goodthings 1) Got to see some coworkers I haven’t had a chance to talk to in about a year. At least. 2) Monday #Aikido. It’s become rare that I can go on Mondays. 3) Got to walk home from work for a change. It was lovely.

#3goodthings #ThreeGoodThings 1) Kiddo got her first pair of #DocMartens today, an advance birthday gift. Yeah, I know, it’s not the same cultural/tribal signifier that it was in the ‘70s. Or ‘80s. But same age as when I got my first pair and it felt like a milestone, anyway. 2) All laundry done - including ironing because I am old school (or just old) - before dinner. 3) #TedLasso three episodes into the latest season hasn’t yet caught its stride, but still diverting to watch with spouse &amp...

#ThreeGoodThings #3goodthings 1) Spouse and I got to go to two #art gallery events this evening. Very, very different media (oil painting, textile, ceramic), all nice people to talk to, all very satisfying. 2) Small #Aikido group, all higher level students, intense class. 3) Kiddo had two classmates over - each had a recipe to cook for Spanish class. Sweet kids, and kind enough to share their homework with us! 😋

Made me feel way more proud than it merited - it’s just been annoying for a long time. 3) Replacement #fountain pen arrived, along with ink I got to help get free shipping. Putting it away in a drawer, found a lot more ink that I’d forgotten about. What...

#ThreeGoodThings #3goodthings 1) Found a way to model some data at work that could be helpful. To me, anyway. 2) Spouse and I killed 3 mosquitoes between the 2 of us this morning before 6 AM. #3goodthings #ThreeGoodThings 1) I am still employed, despite getting cranky with my boss today. 2) Left work early, got in a bike ride and a gym visit to work through said crankiness. 3) Learned some more about my own flavor of #ADHD in therapy today. Nothing is fixed, but have a better idea of how I trick myself into freakouts and can maybe short circuit the “normal” way they play out.

#ThreeGoodThings #3goodthings 1) Local food writer said in a newsletter that the #TokyoCentralMarket should be a destination. Good! #3goodthings #ThreeGoodThings Repeating something I tooted last year about 3 Good Things. Research says that it’s better than Prozac and more long-lasting for reducing burnout and increasing resiliency. I also love reading everyone else’s posts. I am not sure if the effects of that have been studied. Don’t believe me! Here is Dr. Bryan Sexton from Duke University: https://youtu.be/OYMQYhey08w?feature=shared
