  As a reminder to everyone... running an instance isn't free. Even if ppl are doing stuffs from home, adminning and mod stuffs take time and can drain ppl mentally. We prob spend 5-15 hours a week on stuffs, for ex. We think that's pretty light tbh. Modmins of other instances prob do a lot more.   Mastodon users, moderators, and admins... is there a way to turn OFF the "from someone you might know" filter? We find it heavy handed and irritating; we've missed requests and questions because mastodon itself filtered them.   Good morning, We are reviewing the attempted spam sign-ups we've rejected this month and blocking the throwaway email domains. If we see a pattern of IP stuffs, we'll probably block those too. ---- With this new wave of attempted spammy sign ups, we again revisit our opinion that OPEN REGISTRATION HARMS THE FEDIVERSE.   We've been quiet on the Fediblock tag but we're still here and paying attention. The latest spam sign-up attempt waves mean that we are are working on importing the most commonly used disposable email domains. If there is an easier way, we would enjoy hearing.

" We find that they have acted deceptively and dishonestly, stolen the work of other modmins and passed it off as their own, and made repeated false accusations against those who questioned their authenticity.   Modmins, it might be time to review ur accounts panel. Some of the more reg serial spammers and bigots are on school holiday or something. We smooshed a few more of the "just five" accounts from Linux is Best, cleared some fediblock spammers. Seems some boys just can't stand being ignored. Yes, we understand the arguments for allowing open registration. But tbh? We find those arguments unconvincing given the abuse we see. The fedi has a serial troll / spammer problem and open registration contributes to its continuation.
