Thanks to @YannKervran we've now uploaded quite a few dev-logs to the website. Patreon dev-logs will always be a bit ahead of the website but right now they are in sync. Our next topics are art update (including a new ship) and grid-based building placement part 1. https://niwl.games/posts/ #godot #godotengine #indiegame #devlog

I usually complain a lot but godot is pretty cool. Turns out the feature I needed already landed in the new version I just didn't know the feature name changed at release. "SVGtexture" became "DPItexture". But it already works and it a huge improvement for UI work. Thank you #godot team! Between this and the New Area lights and specular occlusion, what a glow up.

Really thankful to our Patrons who enable us to keep going despite heatwaves and storms! In the next few months we're hoping to focus on gameplay programming, try the 3D shipbuilding system and write a godot tutorial.

We're starting a series of blog posts on various gamedev topics. Here's @khaleer telling us about his workflow for stylized lowpoly assets using Blender and #krita. https://niwl.games/posts/texturing-process/ If you'd like a deeper dive on a particular technique let us know in the comments. #b3d #gamedev #blender #indiedev #indiegame #texturing #handpainted #godot #godotengine

@cozybuild@mastodon.social @khaleer Pretty well for me! A thing I like for example is setting the Ambient Occlusion (AO) to "multiply" blend mode, and paint in color on a layer under that. This nice to preview what the result will look like with AO in game for our stylized retro style.

@cozybuild@mastodon.social @khaleer Oh that might have been due to un-used data blocks not being preserved. this is a known issue with blender in general. Make sure you click "save out all images" in the image editor when you are about to close a file. And "pack all into blend" in the file menu.

@cozybuild@mastodon.social @khaleer Baking only for now but interested to try the krita workflow for that.
