I once again implore all technical writers to _expand their damn acronyms_ on first use.

PSA for people writing about autism, ADHD etc and using neurodiversity language: 1. Thanks for using less pathologising, inclusive language! 2. "Diversity" describes a group containing a variety of types. "Divergent" describes a single instance that deviates from a norm. In context: a person who is, for example, autistic, is neurodivergent. Their neurotype diverges from the typical. They're not neurodiverse. A group of neurotypical & neurod...

One day I really ought to write an elaborate love letter blog post for #kotlinlang's `sealed interface`. It's extremely powerful and I keep on finding new ways to use it to make our codebase leaner yet rock solid safe. Differentiate only where relevant, otherwise share code where possible. Subtype it to restrict if you need. Litter in decorating interfaces to apply behaviour or externally derived properties as needed, ... I could go on. Hence the need for a blog post.

RE: https://mastodon.social/@MichDdev/117406436791405007 Okay, I wrote the #kotlin sealed interface love letter blog post! https://michd.me/blog/a-love-letter-to-kotlin-sealed-interface/ It covers explaining the qualities of the sealed interface, and a number of real world examples of how it's massively simplified systems. I muse a bit about some architectural principles I've learned over time too and make some recommendations. I hadn't really blogged about software en...

@R@mast.qixto.com Mastodon has plenty of tools to curate what you see. You can mute accounts for one, if you don't like what they post; and they won't show up in hashtag feeds. Or anywhere. This was an option available to you other than assuming someone's life circumstances and being incredibly unkind to them.

I am begging for society as a whole to consider that phone calls are not just a quick lil interruption that's totally fine and good for everyone on the planet. I'm dealing with some administrative stuff that's way more involved than I was hoping for. Yesterday got a voicemail (I rejected the call). Listened to voice mail. Replied to it via their messaging platform. No acknowledgment. #actuallyautistic

Happy April Fools day! The one day a year that bullshit and untruths are posted for the sake of "humour" instead of manipulation.

One of my best friends has set up a fundraiser for a wheelchair accessible van that would help them get their partner timely medical care that doesn't end up just injuring them more or draining their funds. They've been dealt a very shitty hand in life- any bit you could chip in helps. Thanks for reading their story and/or passing it along. https://www.gofundme.com/f/accessible-van-for-shan-support-a-wheelchair-user #mutualaid

Sometimes I get imposter syndrome like "am I really #actuallyautistic " (despite getting diagnosed over a year ago) and then I find myself awake at 1 am on a work day having spent the past 3 hours customising an information bar in the top 30 pixels of my screen.

I'd appreciate if people automating posting random state info about their house to Mastodon [tangentially: why? who benefits?] either wouldn't do it with the #homeassistant hashtag, or at least would include another common, easily mutable hashtag so I don't have to keep muting accounts while following the HA hashtag because I'm interested in, well, people talking about Home Assistant. ๐
