Hoping for the best for our country tomorrow. I’m not super knowledgeable about politics or an extreme leftist or anything, and some people have been kinda condescending about that, but I believe in stuff. When I was a little kid, influential adults in my life helped me learn what’s important and I carry it with me still in who I am and how I conduct my life. I believe in the earth, in kindness, in creativity, and in love goddamn it. I feel like almost nothing in this nation reflects what I know...

I usually do closeup head and shoulders portraits of ravens because there’s so much in the eye, but in full profile they are also impressive.

My most recent camping trip was a year ago. I miss it but I don’t regret it; I decided to stay in town on weekends so I could help out my parents.

I also want to say, as I mentioned the other day, the ravens don’t always want to come near me, so I respect the distance and don’t chase. I’m also not in the habit of feeding them (or any other birds). As someone who cares deeply for birds, I recommend following local ordinances and practices, common sense, and the ethics of interacting safely with wildlife.

This was the calmest Raven from the morning. They seem to be most tolerant of human presence at the beginning and end of the day, possibly coinciding with their grooming and self-maintenance tasks.

I’ve spent enough time with Ravens to know they’re not always in the mood. But every once in awhile—maybe it’s part of their PR campaign for the Halloween season, or maybe they just finished eating or preening—they’ll humor me and stick around for a moment where they seem just as curious as I am. A genuine “who’s watching who” scenario when I suddenly realize I’ve forgotten to breathe.

RE: https://mas.to/@Jgbird/117437743977273831 The wing tags were placed onto the birds by researchers monitoring storm petrel nest predation to be able to identify the ravens on the camera traps. https://sonoranjv.org/threats-ashy-storm-petrels-channel-islands/

Still swamped with work. Gotta wind everything down before my trip up north next month. But might have time next week for birds. Hopefully it doesn’t rain.

I heard a White-crowned sparrow at Crystal Cove last Saturday. I didn’t see it (this one is from a couple years ago) but they’re here now for a few months.
