At work today, it was permitted to wear supportive jerseys of Edmonton's NHL franchise. My response: 'is that frat-boy rapist still on the roster? If that is the case, I'm not even going to use the name of Edmonton's team. #nhl #oilers PS. - my favourite players has always been Darnell Nurse. How's he doing as a San Jose Shark?

#yegbike commute: pleasantly cool at +1°C with the slightest of southern breezes. Skies clear. Traffic blessedly light, only a few dog walkers on the paths. Streetlife present but mostly quiet and self-contained. 2 sidewalk campfires, at least 10 tents and tarp constructions. Mostly a serene ride, mindfulness keeping the anxiety at bay. Working on that. Not a bad Friday ride. No birds noted at all. #earworm ‘Ticket To Ride’, The Beatles

#yegbike commute: cool at 0°C with light southwest wind in clear skies. Traffic blessedly light, paths mostly empty. Street life quiet and self-contained, tents and campfires. Fantastic ride in this so far quite comfortable autumn. Serenity and mindfulness achieved, anxiety held at bay. #earworm ‘The Love I Lost’, Harold Melvin and the Bluenotes.

#yegbike commute: pleasantly warm at +5°C with slight southwest breeze in slightly cloudy skies. Traffic medium weekday busy, mildly annoying. I took the High Level Bridge route, as I had to stop at the Bank Machine to get cash for the work lotto fund - but the TD Machine in the Oilers Party Plaza was down! So up 97th Street which was a regrettable choice. #earworm ‘Ol’ 55’ Tom Waits, covered by The Eagles. So I’m riding with Lady Luck, freeways, cars and trucks. Otherwise paths were empty, surf...

#yegbike commute: pleasantly temperature of +5°C with light southwest breeze in clear skies. Can’t say enough about this fantastic fall weather. Some branches and leaves in the paths from last nights storm, but leaves are not wet. Just as well as I’m still on the mini-velo roadster. Traffic was medium weekday levels, a bit weird but not too annoying. Street life quiet, a few other bikes. No birds or even rabbits this morning. Serenity and mindfulness achieved, the bike paths are much better than...

#yegbike commute: another pleasant morning at +5°C with light southwest breeze in clear skies. Traffic fairly heavy, but not directly annoying. Paths clear with a few scooters, joggers and dog walkers. Also a few rabbits out and about, no birds. Taking these lovely fall days one at a time. A great riding day, as far as I’m concerned. Mindfulness, serenity and no anxiety. #earworm ‘Roundabout’, Yes. Guess which road structure I appreciated this morning.

#yegbike commute: now +2°C has a chill to it - might be the brisk and gusty southeast wind. A fair amount of leaves in the pathways, but mostly dry. Traffic blessedly light on this holiday Monday morning, paths mostly empty. Street life ensconced in tents and tarps. A good ride for fall. Serenity and mindfulness achieved, no anxiety. Had a good Thanksgiving dinner last night with the extended family, I did 2 chickens rather than turkey to great affect. The wife got to do her baking with biscuits...

#yegbike commute: chillly at +3°C with a northwest wind in clear skies. Traffic medium to light weekday levels, not too annoying. Inner city quiet in the tents and tarps on the sidewalks. Paths mostly empty, a few other bikes. Plenty of leaves on the paths, some hiding branches. Not a bad fall ride. Serenity and mindfulness achieved, anxiety held at bay. So begins the real workweek. #earworm - a chiptune Cumbia, ‘Cumbia del lobo’ by the Mexican Institute of Sound.https://youtu.be/UmheUPlViKM

#yegbike commute: warmish again at +7°C with stiff southwest winds in clear skies. Traffic medium weekday levels, not too annoying. Paths mostly empty, a few other bikes. Took the 109th/Kingsway route to avoid heavy leaf levels on the 96th Street route. Was hoping there would be more streetlights (to many dark patches to list), but it was just as bad - 108tn Street through Oliver was particularly dark. But overall a great fall ride. A few skunks, and I forgot to mention a coyote yesterday. No b...

#yegbike commute: cool and crisp at +1°C with slight northwest breeze. Not many leaves, but branches about on the paths. Mostly empty paths, a few rabbits. Traffic blessedly light, not to annoying at all. Quite a good ride actually, took the 109th to 101st Street way today for good result. Mindfulness achieved, serenity by the end. Anxiety medium level, a good ride reduced that quite a bit. #earworm ‘Take A Chance’, ABBA

Today is the day the kidlet has me over to help built the shed she bought. The construction team? Me and the ex, her mother. It’s a tiny bit awkward (and I mean that sincerely, just a tiny bit) but the project and the team is doing well.

#yegbike commute: chilly at 0°C with light southwest breeze in clear skies. Traffic medium weekday levels, and while driving behaviour was unimpressive, didn’t annoy me directly. Inner city was mostly in sidewalk tents, one sidewalk campfire. A surprising amount of street lights out - 96th street in particular, from Jasper to 104th ave, and up through Norwood to 115th Ave - quite dark. A few other bikes, paths mostly empty. Except for a coyote. #earworm ‘Good Morning Starshine’,

Now we wait for the votes to be fully counted. Hopefully the Minister of Transportation gets caught out as a separatist while his party implodes, so he doesn’t get to pass his bike lane legislation.

#yegbike commute: a little chilly at -3°C with slight easterly breeze in clear skies. A good temperature as far as I’m concerned. Traffic weekday light, not too annoying. A few other bikes, paths mostly empty. Took the 109th Street route, while there was still dark streets, most notably 108th street though Oliver up to Kingsway, better than the Norwood route. A good ride overall, serenity eventually achieved. #earworm ‘Watching The Wheels’, John Lennon. People say I’m crazy. I’m hoping to never...

#yegbike commute: plus 3°C, but a stiff and gusty northwest wind with medium rain cools things right down. Fairly dark, wet and miserable morning. Traffic surprisingly light, and many lights were lit on 96th Street. Innner city all in their tent and tarp structures. A few other bikes. Happy Friday. #earworm ‘Greetings To The New Brunette’, Billy Bragg sounding like the Smiths. Shirley!

Watching the #UCIworlds For free, on the CBC! On streets I have ridden on, at least some of them. But I'm on team #EFeducation So nice to see Alison Jackson (my favourite cyclist) back with Mags - who has crashed out!? But lately I've gotten to cheering for Cedrine Kerbaol and Naomi Reugg and they're NOT on Team Canada. Who do I cheer for? #uci #montreal

Okay, there are 2 moose roaming and rummaging in the woods around our campsite. We’re not too scared, but I don’t know what to do. What can you do? We have a fire, and I have told them to go away. We shall see.

Camping in Miquelon Park. Gravel section roads from a Camrose start, no issues. Camp set up, check. Birds scouted on Merlin - check, the usual suspects, no new ones. Supper with carbonara ramen pack, cooked in beef jerky and carrot broth, check. One match fire! Now the party has started.

So the R&R Motel in Camrose has a breakfast spread about as good as the wacko weirdo motel in Ponoka. Maybe not quite as much omelets and tater tots, but had breakfast burritos, much more to my taste. The other place did have instant espresso powder (which I think I was the first to use) so I could beef up the coffee. We have the aeropress back in the room.

#yegbike larger area musings, Camrose edition: Coming into town, I had been texting with my daughter about family business. (No texting while cycling, there were many rest breaks). I mentioned that in this long slog of a ride; I was thinking a lot about Boston Pizza for supper. The kidlet has some connections in Camrose, so she asked them to recommend some independent food places. Prime Fried Chicken was the winner, and we had a great supper there. I forgot to add that we had come across great c...

So when in Rocky Mountain House, one should visit Rocky Mountain Bike N Board. And you should listen to Loyal when he tells you of a gravel path out to the Historic Site, What a great little ride! Some paved, some single track, some grass, and to a Historical Fort site! Also you should heed his advice as to what local restaurants are good. We have yet to check that out, but we look forward to tonight’s supper. Rocky Mountain House is a charming town, but the local cuisine is largely the usual f...

OK Mastodon and the larger fediverse, I have succumbed to your charms and have been taking pictures of #fungi. These were found on aging woodpiles in central Alberta in the beginning of the foothills, well east of the Rockies. A fungi-id app identified the vertical facing ones as puffballs, whereas the downward facing ones were identified as ‘Turkey Tail’. I’m assuming they are the same species, any thoughts?

#yegbike commute: a little bit chilly at +9° with northwest winds. Paths full of tree branches and twigs - how can they have any left? Inner city quiet under tarps, traffic quite light. #yegbike commute: a little on the warm side at +14°C with negligible wind in overcast skies. Paths mostly good and dry, still muddy in patches, particularly around the low level bridge, and of course branches and twigs all over. Mosquitoes still out, but slightly less than before. Inner city mostly absent, a few people and bike commuters on the paths. Traffic light but medium annoying. #earworm still ‘Falling Slowly’, RIP Glen Hansard.
