RE: https://mastodon.social/@jagsworkshop/117508351757697330 My two-year-old iPad mini is my most-used iPad. My two wishes have been for a faster chip and a thinner and lighter chassis. Apple has fulfilled both. The tradeoff is a significant leap in price: the new iPad mini starts at $700 versus $500 two years ago

RE: https://mastodon.social/@jagsworkshop/117508706008932181 $2 trillion target. $16.3 billion revenue and $80 billion loss in the first half of 2026. $807 billion in contracted spending over the next 10 years. Nearly 100 pages of risk factors. It will trade on Nasdaq under the symbol ANT, which, I learned recently, is also what employees call themselves.

RE: https://mastodon.social/@jagsworkshop/117514278765643654 I’ll be honest. I haven’t thought about iMac in years. My last one was the 2017 27-inch iMac Pro 5K, which, admittedly, was one of my favorite computers. I’ve long since moved on to the desktop-laptop lifestyle. But I love that Apple is comparing the performance of the iMac M6 to an Intel-based iMac.

RE: https://mastodon.social/@jagsworkshop/117514279660736744 The entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro is the laptop people buy when they think they need “Pro” in their laptop’s name. For most of those people, a well-specced MacBook Air would suit them just fine. Unless… well, you know.

The “Pre-order Now” link to the new MacBook Pro with ProLED is broken and the page “can’t be found.” Yikes! https://www.apple.com/shop/product/065-cmxg #MacBookPro

RE: https://mastodon.social/@jagsworkshop/117522107267721816 The name isn’t great. It’s practically leaping out from behind a bush, screaming in your face. It’s a gangly jumble of uppercase letters colliding inelegantly with each other. “MacBook Neo” this is not.

RE: https://mastodon.social/@jagsworkshop/117522107267721816 Apple replaces the notch with the Dynamic Island. It houses Siri, Live Activities, and transient notifications. Does this mean I can no longer move my Siri (and Spotlight) window anywhere on the screen? How distracting will Live Activities be on a screen that I’m staring at for hours a day?

RE: https://mastodon.social/@jagsworkshop/116461068034517578 Hawaiʻi Senate Bill 2471 “would emphasize that corporations are ‘artificial persons’ and “make clear that the powers of corporations do not include spending money or contributing ‘anything of value’ to influence elections or ballot measures.” A novel approach to constrain corporate “personhood.”

RE: https://mastodon.social/@jagsworkshop/116462060927779209 All of this upheaval because Mark Zuckerberg chases technological fantasies with the attention span of a gerbil. I have every confidence that he’ll be as successful with his AI machinations as he was with virtual reality.

RE: https://mastodon.social/@jagsworkshop/116462060927779209 Oh and Zuck will surveil remaining employees to train AI, presumably so he can eventually lay them off, too. The top internal comment: “This makes me super uncomfortable. How do we opt out?” “I never thought leopards would surveil me,” sobs woman working for the Leopards Surveilling People Company.

RE: https://mastodon.social/@jagsworkshop/116004507381158378 Claudette Colvin is not a name most people know. She refused to give up her bus seat to a white woman, inspired by what she learned in her segregated school during “Negro history month.” She declared to the police who dragged her from the bus, “It’s my constitutional right to sit here as much as that lady.” She died two weeks ago.
