Right. Fingers crossed, everything is now stable. I'll keep monitoring it throughout the day, but I'm planning some maintenance work this weekend to address some of the fundamental issues.

Morning all! Getting some maintenance work done on the Mastodon server today. Mostly just database tuning etc. If all goes well, we might attempt the big move tomorrow!

when editing config files, there's a world of difference between: data_directory and data-directory especially when the service won't even start if the config file can't be parsed...

My washing machine has stopped working. I’m no expert, but I think this might be why… Going to see if a new plug does the job, otherwise I’m looking at a new unit.

Good news! I fixed the washing machine! A new plug and fuse, and it’s as good as new. I’m still crossing fingers, but it managed to get through three loads of laundry with no problem, so I hope it’s all fixed.

Afternoon all! Quick update on the database migration tests last weekend. Unfortunately I was unable to get the database copied over to the new environment, mainly because I ran out of time. However, I did some research over the last couple of days during my commute, and I think I've found a more efficient way of doing the transfer! I'll keep you all posted, and shout if you're curious about the details!

Morning all! So, we all survived the theme park! But I was so exhausted, yesterday was a complete write-off. On the upside, I completed the main story in Minecraft Dungeons 2 and am now on the post-story content. Still working towards level cap (100), but there’s been some clear thought about making the game as replayable as possible. #MinecraftDungeons2 #NintendoSwitch2

We've had about 30 minutes of downtime earlier today, after the platform monitoring tool alerted me of an outage - so at least that's working! Unfortunately the server itself needed to be rebooted (not just the docker containers), which caused issues of its own when trying to restore service.

Clearing out the old S3 buckets with the old host so that I can delete them. Yes, I figured that running s3cmd rm was going to be quicker than setting a lifecycle expiration and hoping I got my XML syntax right...

I’ve been gradually collecting these #Lego Technic pocket kits. They all have a little mechanical feature based on building construction, and I love the design consistency across the range.

Morning all! It's the end of the week, which means a morning of training followed by an afternoon of reports. Yay me!

Morning all. Today I'm feeling the after-effects of having a flu vaccination. Very lethargic with aching joints. On the flip side, I managed to get the remaining S3 content deleted, the buckets closed, and the service cancelled. Yay for saving money! I'm doing some Postgres migration tests at the moment in readiness of the move, but there will be some downtime, so I'm also prepping up the ugliest maintenance page known to earth. I'm going to use a simple tweak...

Oh, forgot to mention, but OVH (our planned new host) just pushed their server pricing up 70%. This is going to require some careful replanning to make sure we don't end up crippled by pricing during the migration. I'm going to reconfigure some of the infrastructure to use a greater number of smaller servers - more management overhead, but cheaper.

Based on current estimates, we’re probably looking at 3-4 hours of downtime to migrate the Postgres database to the new server, but there will undoubtedly be a performance improvement as a result. - 1 hour to generate the backup - 30 minutes to transfer 30GB of compressed (gzip) data to the new server - 1 hour to load it into the new server - 30 mins of config update and testing I’m doing a dress rehearsal at the moment to do some checks on the health of the export before we schedule it

Afternoon all! Been a busy week travelling for work, followed by a busy weekend with the local Beavers group at Poultons Park (a local theme park). I am now absolutely shattered and thinking about ordering take-out for dinner.

So far, my small town (120,000 people has) - KFC x2 - Popeyes - Slim Chickens - Dixy Chicken and soon a Wing Stop. And that's not counting the other fast food places with chicken on the menu. How much poultry can one town eat?

How often do you upgrade you phone? The new iPhone launches today and, as discussed before, I'm skipping it. But that makes me wonder. Back in the 00's, I'd upgrade my phone every year. In the 10's, that drifted to 2 years. And now, in the 20's, it's moving to every three years. I'm curios to know - is that a similar experience to others here? How often do you upgrade your phone? And let me know why in the replies!

It’s been 12 hours since moving S3 provider, and everything looks great! I’m going to keep monitoring things for a week before deleting the old bucket and decommissioning the old service.

On Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake: Hard Buy, but only on physical media. If I end up replacing my son’s switch with his own Switch 2, I want to be able to share this with him. It’s a keystone game, and I’d love for him to build core memories playing it. Besides, this is going to be pure nostalgia for me :) I really can’t justify the fancy Zelda Switch 2 though. :( #zelda

RE: https://indiepocalypse.social/@jenny753/117077988773568845 If I didn't already have a Switch 2, I'd be getting this version. As it is, I might have to buy that new Pro controller.

It’s taken probably half a day of research and testing, but I finally have a workable UI for #FFXIV on #nintendoswitch2. Now I just need a crap ton of practice. Huge thanks to everyone who game me amazing advice!

So, I got #FFXIV on the Switch 2. I couldn’t use the free trial against my existing account, so I ended up getting the heavily discounted bundle. I now realise two things: - I have completely forgotten how to play bard after quitting Dawntrail at 95. - I have no idea how to play with a controller If anyone has any guides or blogs on this, I’d love to see them! At least Gpose still works ;)

Also, the memory card I bought for my Switch 1 won’t work for the Switch 2. (micro SD vs Micro SD EX. It’s like a Pokemon Powerup.) So I’ve had to order a new one of those too. FML.
