  It is always sad when an association of people helping other people has to close down. This was apparently the case of the "Gruppo Utenti GNU/Linux Vicenza" (GNU/Linux User Group of Vicenza) who announced their closure: https://lugvi.it/2026/08/18/il-lugvicenza-non-e-piu-associazione/ 😥 Thanks to them anyway for redirecting parts of their funds towards GIMP upon closing! 💌 They got in touch with us when doing so, so it deserved a shoutout!

  We have talentful contributors roaming our trackers all the time. One of the very active contributor we have lately is balooii, who also ends up being a skilled software archeologist! 🤠 One of his last fun project was building #GIMP 0.54 from 1996 in a Flatpak package (making it runnable on a modern Linux system).   A few months ago, we warned that malevolent people were buying Google ads leading people to fake #GIMP websites to trick them into downloading malware. Apparently this is still continuing to this day (as were reported to us). Google is still not blocking these fake ads despite the many reports and articles which happened for months now. 😓 Be careful and always make sure where you download your software from.
