  So apparently some #Mastodon instance shut down because its bigoted admin threw a hissy fit over #HarryPotter #HogwartsLegacy spoilers. So 12,000 users or whatever had to migrate instances. Some chucklehead said this was proof the Mastodon system couldn't work. But it seems to me like that worked just fine. The users can now go to other instances with, presumably, better admins. Am I missing something?

  @timapple@social.lol The transphobe would be the admin who got hurt in the feelings because of spoilers against his TERF game, and shut down his instance. Which, again, seems like the system working to me.

  Question for my #leftist friends. It's been nine months since thousands of photos and documents of brutality in #China against the #Uighur population were leaked. The one thing I haven't seen in all that time is a thorough analysis of the pictures and documents to try and authenticate or discredit them. I'm not interested in a debate at this time, I'm just wondering if anyone has taken the time to thoroughly try to authenticate the material. Anyone know? Anyone...

  @atomicpoet Both cases are a reminder that ultimately it is human beings in charge of these technological websites, and if they are bad people then bad things will happen. That always being a possibility, I'd rather have the Fediverse where one bad actor doesn't ruin the whole thing for everyone. It sucks for the users and it'd be great if there was some way for them to save and migrate their posts with them, but at least it doesn't ruin the whole platform.

  The best reason to dump #HarryPotter is because the #trans and #Jewish communities have asked. But a friend gave me another perspective. This is where we #millennials decide whether to repeat the abuse #boomers gave us, or whether to be better. Do we cling to our outdated nostalgia and insist we know better than "entitled" kids? Or do we trust them, listen, learn, and grow? (Note: Generational generalities have exceptions. and I love good boomers.)

  @Homebrewandhacking Well when you get down to it all people, regardless of their age, should put the safety of others above their personal nostalgia and traditions. But since I'm a millennial, and since the desire to not be like stereotypical boomers is something of a common factor in my generation, I narrowed the scope of my post.

  @arstechnica #SpaceX is putting more tonnage into space than the rest of the world combined, mostly #Starlink junk. That's a serious problem for those of us aware of what Starlink is doing to affect both Earth-based #astronomy and space debris in orbit. SpaceX is polluting Earth orbit like industries have polluted Earth's environment.

  The #SocialSecurity judge denied me at my hearing. No #disability. This is my third time trying. I've been disabled and unable to work since 2013. Each attempt literally takes years, during which I'm supposed to, I don't know, magically survive on nothing. At my hearing, the judge questioned how I could play a #TTRPG once a week, which is literally my only IRL social interaction outside my apartment-mates, but not be able to work. Fuck her.
