  Might be wrong here, but it feels like people are being really stupid when it comes to dealing with that PHP security issue. No, not the admins. The everyday users. See quite a few people telling them to “change their password”, even before the update. But if a site gets hacked, your password isn’t affected. Either it’s weak enough to get cracked, or it isn’t, at least if the devs did their jobs properly. What you really need to consider is… #technology #security

  Seen a lot of people panicking about AI being used to hack systems and let people find new vulnerabilities and what not. But personally? I feel like in this case it may be for the best in the long run. Remember, security problems don’t go away if you just ignore them. These vulnerabilities were going to get found eventually. Heck, it’s possible the likes of the NSA already knew about some of them… Hopefully it teaches us to take security seriously.

  Do you ever think about how in some other universe, the ideas from a game’s concept art became a reality while our version’s ideas remained as concept art? There’s a universe out there where Guardians were weird alien monsters in Breath of the Wild, and the robot versions were only seen in Creating a Champion. There’s one where Mario Odyssey’s Ruined Dragon was a Japanese style god and the Dark Souls like one was only seen in The Art of Super Mario Odyssey. Weird isn’t it?

  Seen some people refusing to look at the results of the Switch 2 hacks because AI was used to find the exploit. And I want to ask something… Do you believe that logic for other stuff too? If a cure for cancer was found by dubious means (AI or illegal scientific studies) would you refuse to take it if you were dying? How about all the tech and scientific knowledge found through unethical experiments by authoritarian regimes, or developed for military purposes? What about info found via hacks?

  Not gonna lie, my biggest issue as a YouTuber and journalist is that I actually want to do research on the topics I cover rather than blindly cashing in on trends. Like I’m writing about that YouTube channel by a kid who supposedly spent $118K on ads via his dad’s credit card. And most outlets stopped their research there. The app is vibe coded and you can apparently avoid paying by registering on Firebase directly. Accounts leak personal info.   It’s interesting to think about how many movies and TV shows could be ruined by smartphones and the internet, isn’t it? Like, so many horror films and episodes ran on the premise that the town they were in had a dark secret and the inhabitants weren’t human. Or that some strange local was actually a monster and no-one believed the protagonists. Good luck getting away with that in the era of smartphones, live-streaming and the internet in general!

  The funny thing about video game modding and ROM hacking is it’s basically legacy software development as a hobby. You’re adding features and changes to a project whose original developers have long left and who basically provided no documentation at all. In other words, it’s like a software engineering job from hell. But that challenge and awkwardness is all part of the fun… #gamedev #modding #romhacking

  Gonna be honest, if the universe is a simulation it’s awfully poorly designed. Like, why should climate change even be possible? Why have these terrible physics? Just do what Donkey Kong Bananza or Mario Odyssey do and have damage done reset over time. Or like Zelda with the Blood Moon cycle. Wouldn’t it be much better world design if every 24 hours, the atmosphere reset, water was pure again, all resources were renewed and microplastics vanished?

  A word of advice for anyone with an online presence, especially on sites like #Substack and #Medium… Get your own website, and syndicate to those platforms after posting on your own. That way, you’re not at the whims of some faceless company prone to future enshittification. You won’t get cancelled because you said/did something the platform owners dislike offline. Companies won’t ignore fair use as often. And you have full control over the design and features. #indieweb #webdevelopment
