So these have been appearing around #Boston. It’s clearly some sort of surveillance device, but what kind?

So what are we buying this #BandcampFriday? My recommendation is the new album Bloody Dreams by Philly's own Devil Master, though all their stuff is good. Punk-metal hybrid, so if you like either genre, you would probably enjoy getting your ass kicked by this band. (I have no affiliation. Just a fan!)

Boston dog owners: got an email from BWSC saying that there's a toxic algae bloom in the Charles right by Millennium Park. So if you like to take your dog there to splash in the water on a hot day, probably avoid. #boston #dog

In climate change news, the heat in Boston isn’t as bad as predicted because the air is thick with wildfire smoke! So…yay?

Sometimes I think about how Robert Heinlein wrote a book that boils down to "I am extremely horny" and people at the time were like, "OMG! Philosophy!"

Shouting out everybody with complicated or just bad relationships with their mom, everybody with a dead mom, everybody else who feels excluded today. Hi!

I have a minor knee injury and have a small amount of constant pain, and it has made everyone and everything so irritating. Shoutout to everyone with chronic pain for not killing us all

Said it before and I'll say it again--the most fucked up, disturbing genre is cozy mystery. "There's violence and death, but don't worry--it's delightful!" Chilling.

Well, if you had "The Strokes put out a single that sounds kinda like Ween" on your 2026 bingo card, congrats! (I like it, btw. Love when bands throw curve balls)

I heard about how there are a lot of vacant apartments in Boston but rents aren't coming down which is weird because about a million white guys told me again and again that housing was a simple problem of supply and demand.

10 years since Prince died. Here's my recommendation for 80 minutes of great Prince songs from the 1990's. https://write.as/brendanhalpin/prince-in-the-90s #Prince

Me: why doesn’t the stupid fob unlock all the doors when I press the button? Spouse: they must have had a woman on the design team. Me: wha? Her: If someone is following you to your car, you don’t want to unlock ALL the doors. Just the driver door. Literally any woman could tell you that. Me: huh!

I'm not gonna stan rich people or pro athletes, or people who drive impaired, but the Tiger Woods thing reveals how cops work the media. "He had pills in his pocket!" Okay. That's not illegal. What's the point of releasing that detail?

Never wanted to learn to code for any reason, but seeing everyone dragging the absolute shit out of the Claude code makes me wish I could understand more than just the profanity. (which is very well done across the board, btw)

The "rules" of spelling and usage are entirely fake. How can you tell? Take this quick quiz! 1.Who made the rules? 2. Who gave them the authority to make those rules? If your answers are, "I dunno, Warriner or Strunk & White?" and "Nobody, I guess," what you have are not rules, but rather AGREEMENTS. 1/2

I dunno, I can't get too happy about anybody in the Trump admin getting fired. They'll all get handed high-paying, low-work jobs with way less public scrutiny and therefore improve their quality of life.

Here's what I think USians struggle with: there is no one thing you can do that's going to fix everything. Protest, voting, mutual aid, whatever--none of these things are the ONLY solution. If the tide turns it will be because lots of people did lots of things. So yes, you're right that [insert activity here] isn't the solution, but you're asking the wrong question. Does it have the potential to make anything a little better?
