BastilleBSD :freebsd:

BastilleBSD@fosstodon.org

Bastille is an open-source framework for automating deployment and management of containerized (jailed) applications on FreeBSD.

Refuge for the iocage diaspora with import compatibility.

We are also the home of Rocinante, the BSD workhorse. Rocinante lets you automate configuration management of the host system using Bastillefile templates.

Also in development: our take on a modern FreeBSD distribution with our tools pre-installed and an optional KDE Desktop.

Monthly reminder to periodically check your bastille.conf for updates or new entries from the sample config: cd /usr/local/etc/bastille diff -u bastille.conf bastille.conf.sample We try to keep config updates to a minimum, but sometimes they are required. #BastilleBSD #FreeBSD

I was in my Dad’s garage looking for a tool and found this old stack of CDs that he now uses to deter birds from his garden. Ubuntu 9.10 server edition. Blast from the past! #Ubuntu #retro #OldSchool #Linux

Recommend your favorite Meshtastic / Meshcore hardware for someone getting started. For context, I'm looking for something I can use from my RV while traveling and off-grid. I'm considering a vehicle mounted radio and 1-2 small mobile units for hikes and exploring. #Meshtastic #Meshcore #LoRa #

Every single one of these is an AI bot. Amazon, openAI, Claude, Peplexity. Also, every single one of these requests is malicious, attempting to steal credentials, keys or configs. Looks like it's time to make the firewall filters smarter. #AI #malware #bot #FreeBSD #nginx

I converted another host to pkgbase with `pkgbasify`. Worked great! Even updated the jail base: ./pkgbasify --rootdir /usr/local/bastille/releases/15.1-RELEASE Bastille even detects that the jail base has been updated, and the next `bastille update 15.1-RELEASE` automatically uses pkg. #FreeBSD #BastilleBSD #pkgbase

The recent trends in AI and anti-AI sentiment remind me of Battlestar Galactica. Due to the advanced capabilities of the Cylons (AI), the Galactica's response was to go full retro tech. Cylons can't infiltrate air-gapped ships and air-gapped computers. Sure, their ship was "legacy" by the time the conflict started but the "legacy" aspect is what saved everyone. Makes me wonder what the future of tech has in store for us, and how many might go full retro tech in re...
