for what its worth, I use rsnapshot, and btrfs snapshots.
If not for those two, I just use tar&rsync- like the good ol' days.
however, only recently have I been opt'ing to use a FS that supports snapshots. My desktop hardware's storage I don't honestly care much about. Its all the server hardware that keeps me up at night.
