@hacks4pancakes@infosec.exchange this happened in a minor way to a friend of mine. He was a black kid who went to school in a very white part of the area. He was bullied and nearly kicked out a few different times. The only folks who treated him with respect were his teachers (importantly, not the admin) He ended up going off and becoming kind of a big deal in the insurance law space. The school, later, wanted to give him some award for alumni. This ceremony was often used for successful alumni to donate to the school. At the ceremony, he used his speech to lambast the admin and the parents from his time, including the principal who was retiring the next year. He broke the (apparently plastic) award and then donated to one of his (by then retired) teacher’s cancer gofundme live on stage, to the tune of triple what the person the last year had donated to the school.
