Many of the same people and organizations that told you that are also Israel supporters. Ask yourself why that is.
The actual statistics for Xinjiang province show the same quality of life improvements as the rest of China. The Uyghur population is living longer, attaining higher education, earning higher incomes, and their region is seeing constant development.
Time will tell. A year from now, I bet things are even better. Will your life be better next year?
