@scathach@stereophonic.space “engineer” or “architect” have always been extremely loaded metaphors, with the exception of maybe people who write machine code / firmware still I’d rather use an app where someone actually designed and worked on than some machine generated bs and the long term implication of slop on top of slop where no one knows how it works is gonna be a major problem when it’s no longer economically viable to burn through centuries of oil in a week

Devs have been playing glorified Legos for a full generation, not vetting the packages or dependencies they download. Replacing human-generated mystery blocks with AI generated mystery blocks may be better or worse, we'll find out. But the skill and intellectual damage has already been done. The unquestioning accepters are already here, and they're largely the ones pushing for AI use too.
