I was told as a kid that it dates back to the times of witch trials when witches could hide their totems, charms and spells in them... I have never bothered to look into it and find out if there is any truth to it... Probably because... yeah, it sounds logically plausible. Patriarchal and religious extremism to exert control over others and punish anyone they don't like and won't conform... nasty evil womenses hiding things in their pocketses

@Anomnomnomaly@beige.party yeeeah hiding so many dangerous things in there... like my phone. And my keyes. And maybe some spare change. (and usually some small rocks or pinecones)
