(They're an excellent reader, just impatient with the notion that they should be reading in video games, too.) They're generally just trying to make a beeline right for the next divine beast. They were attempting to scale Death Mountain and climb right onto Vah Rudania, because it was Right There, rather than follow the quest markers.
