The gist: Sometimes a product has a feature which is so bad that a significant portion of people would prefer not have it at all. This can lead to an insidious revenue angle of demanding a payment to turn the feature off.
An identified poor user experience as blackmail.

Telegram has identified that voice and video messages are undesirable to enough people that they have put the ability to limit who can send you these messages behind their premium account paywall. 3/7
