While otherwise a painstaking recycler, I've quit sorting plastics out of our waste. Because I know that the "recycling" bin for plastics leads straight to a furnace. Recycling plastics is not economically viable by far with known technology. It's been a marketing lie from the makers of plastics all along. It causes microplastics. Until Swedish authorities face up to this and give me a convincing reason to sort plastics, I'm not continuing the charade. #plastics #environment #recycling

@mrundkvist@archaeo.social Indeed, the petrochemical companies PET project, was quite the coup. Graduate abusive power with ethical scientists.

@mrundkvist@archaeo.social I tend to agree - the only reason I still sort is that it's actually a bit convenient for me to keep these waste fractions separate, and also to contribute to the statistics of how much plastic waste is generated by polite society...

@mrundkvist@archaeo.social That, or they sell it for dirt cheap to third world countries, so that the plastic pollution thing happens there, and not in rich countries. (on a side note, most microplastics come from lost fishing nets and... mostly car tires... funny how the latter one is almost never mentioned while it's probably the main source of microplastics in the world.
