@rhelune@todon.eu I thought I was going to hate Paul Bloom's book, 'Against Empathy' (as I'm very like you and I...um...empathise!!), but I actually really loved it. I've also thought so much about how empathy relates to power and powerlessness... I've written about that too, since again it's so fascinating (https://www.neurofabulous.org.uk/what-power-does.html) I've tended to find it astonishing at first (is empathy about....logistics?!) but then it seems to satisfy something in me that yearns for...oh... logic ๐

@rhelune@todon.eu @KatyElphinstone@mas.to same. At least sometimes. I started the thread thinking "that's not empathy, at least not how I feel it". And ended with, oh I see, that's how Neurotypicals think about empathy. Huh.

@rhelune@todon.eu @KatyElphinstone@mas.to Without wanting to be to gloomy I think many of us have a sort of layered suffering. There's 1) the injustice targeted at us and then we also recognise 2) this injustice applies to millions of others too and then 3) there are other forms which we may not experience ourselves but still recognise harms others. Next comes 4) the genuine difficulty of living in a world where this is the reality and, perhaps, also 5) the desire to change things but having (too) little agency or not being heard by the powers that be.
