@RootMoose@mastodon.bsd.cafe I think either snac or GoToSocial would work for your use case

@RootMoose@mastodon.bsd.cafe snac is super duper lightweight. I personally love this software, and if you like lightweight UI too, then this might be a fit for you. Mastodon comes with more overhead, a database, some ruby environment stuff, opensearch in some cases, it's nothing i'd call super beginner friendly (you should have some basic linux admin knowledge imho) So my advice would be, have a look into snac. :) (Havent used the other mentioned, gotosocial or pleroma yet, so cant tell anything about that)

@RootMoose@mastodon.bsd.cafe People have already sent you to GoToSocial and snac, so here is the bit nobody covered: the tuning you asked for. GTS puts it in the config file. statuses-max-chars defaults to 5000, statuses-media-max-files to 6, and the poll limits sit right next to them. Their own docs warn that pushing much past the defaults can break federation, so that is your real ceiling, not the software. No idea what snac exposes, so I am not going to guess.
