‘The Red Tree’
Léo Gausson (1860-1944)
Léo Gausson was a French Post-Impressionist who worked closely with the artists of the Pont-Aven circle. His landscapes are remembered for their expressive use of colour. This is one of my favourites.
Gausson was later mentioned in a letter from Theo van Gogh to his brother Vincent in connection with a proposed exchange of paintings, which was completed after Vincent's death.

@ChaHarper@mastodon.scot the tree in this beautiful painting is probably a species of madrona. They grow well in dry hot conditions and often have beautiful red bark.

@ChaHarper@mastodon.scot Nice. Something I haven’t seen a thousand times before. An exhibit of his work would be a plus.
