So, in my quest to simplify my life, I have started to decouple myself from the large privacy invading cloud and AI based services (Microsoft and Google, I'm looking at you), especially with regards to calendars. Emacs has built-in calendar, diary, and appointment capabilities. As I live in Emacs most of the time, these are sufficient for the vast majority of my calendar needs. However, until I achieve the holy grail of *Emacs on the go* (I'm getting there but not quite yet), I really do need an appointment notification system that works with my mobile phone. The solution: advise (using `advice-add`) the `appt-display-message` function to send the appointment information to my phone, using `ntfy.sh` (so still cloud based but hopefully less intrusive). This works because I have Emacs running 24/7 on my home desktop. #Emacs #deshittification

@ericsfraga@fediscience.org I'm still using the palm pilot, or rather I'm not using a calendar because I've never found a cloudless migration path for that and my address book since switching to android garbage os

  • @ericsfraga@fediscience.org I wonder if this is easier than my setup with #emacs. My email provider supplies carddav and caldav APIs. I export my diary to iCalendar and push it to my email provider. From there I pull from the APIs on my phone with davx5 and expose the data in a way most calendar and contact apps can read.
