I was in Mr. Allan's Spanish class (junior year)
One of the office ladies came to his door and knocked to say that there had been a plane which had crashed and possibly other planes were flying around too. I think they mentioned a 'bombing'.
Next period we had a quiz which proceeded - no TVs were wheeled in, no updates were given.
But by fourth or fifth period (before lunch) Mr. Durst's class had a TV and was showing the news. By then the towers were down, both of them. My classmates and I didn't see them fall, but the students in that class probably did.
The number of lives lost - in the thousands - wasn't even remotely processed. I didn't know these people, and I was a 16 year old kid in high school who hadn't seen it happen in real time - how could I grasp it? Only many years later have I really come to understand the impact and consequence.
