A lot of the usual chuds are complaining about the diverse casting in the new Odyssey movie, so I looked into it. It seems reasonable to me that there could be Black people in Greece because there were Greeks and Romans in Africa (Alexander, Cleopatra, Julius Caesar, Marc Anthony, etc.). You know what's really wild? In the original epics about Troy, there were Black people, but no Greeks. Helen was an Aethiopian demigod and the "Greeks" were pre-Greek Mycenaeans.

@BrianBinh@dice.camp I massively enjoy the diversity of history, and resent people trying to homogenise it. Your Odyessy examples are great. Always like to point to things like this as a reminder not to homogenise… There were foreign Samurai: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_foreign-born_samurai_in_Japan There were African legionnaires working on Hadrian’s Wall: https://warwick.ac.uk/fac/arts/classics/warwickclassicsnetwork/romancoventry/resources/diversity/army/ Plus Harriet Tubman leading a civil war raid, Julie d’Aubigny flaunting expectations, actress Hedy Lamarr designing a radar guidance system for torpedoes.
