Many webcomics have plots and expect you to start on page one and read every page in order. Mastodon, Wafrn, and Pixelfed don't work well for that. David Revoy's comic (Mini Fantasy Theater) can work on fedi because it's a gag-a-day comic where it doesn't matter what order you read pages in or if you even read all of them.
If you want to see what a platform designed for comics looks like, let's take a look at ComicFury. Here's what you see if you visit the home page of My Impossible Soulmate by @LynnSenpai@retro.pizza :
https://mis.thecomicseries.com
You may notice that the current page (as of this writing) is page 264. You can click on the double left arrow button to go back to page 1. From there, you can click each page to go to the next page, or use the single arrow buttons to navigate one page at a time. There's also an archive page which lists every page in the series.
ComicFury also gives you a profile for each comic creator, which shows you what other comics they make. In the case of MIS, if you click on Jocelyn's username, you can get to her profile, which shows she has two other comic series. One of those is a translation of MIS intro Spanish, but the other one is Rain, a completed comic whose archive you can read through.
