When I talk about the impact of language-model-based and "agentic" coding on open-source communities, and on human to human interaction, I am more often than not talking about:
- How I cannot trust there is a human on the other end who wants to learn or be part of my community
- How it is an act of great disrespect to show up and rewrite somebody's project in another language
- How all of this actually revolves around that respect, and how these tools sap the culture _of_ respect
And I am _not_ inviting you to tell me I'm just not familiar with the tools, I just haven't used them, or haven't used them well enough to be so against them.
I could not care less about the tools. Me using the tools will not magically make the burden on the fragile tenets of our open-source society go away. The tools are completely beside the point!
And yet, it must be me.
I just haven't tooled hard enough.
