@just_a_frog@c.im @MissConstrue @FediPact not necessarily. when something gains more mainstream attention (in this case, the fediverse from the future likelihood of Meta's platform joining) it becomes more of a potential target for things like spam. so although it hasn't happened yet and the direct souce isn't Threads, it's very likely the newly increased mainstream attention to the fediverse is the cause of early-bird spammers. this will likely increase once the actual federation happens
