Why I switched from Firefox to Vivaldi for browsing Mozilla finally did it. They pissed me off enough that I've made the switch. https://michaelharley.net/posts/2026/08/04/why-i-switched-from-firefox-to-vivaldi-for-browsing/ #Blaugust #Blaugust2026 #Firefox #Mozilla #Vivaldi #Privacy

  • @michaelharley@infosec.exchange Consider Waterfox or Librewolf before jumping. Both forks are fantastic and remove the nonsense from Mozilla. Vivaldi is Chromium based so I don't trust it personally.

@michaelharley@infosec.exchange While Vivaldi has come with some learning curves (and it's own weird issues) I've been quite happy with it for the better part of a year now. Firefox just leaves too many "what-ifs" to put too much stock into using it. Who knows if/when the maintainers of the forks will up and leave you empty handed?

@michaelharley@infosec.exchange Good for you, I find myself switching between both so I guess it's only a matter of time for me as well. Always liked the early Opera days but indeed don't care for built-in email/whatever. Free built-in VPN is cool though.

@michaelharley@infosec.exchange Great post, and I absolutely agree with your take about Mozilla. They have to be one of the most frustrating corporations in tech... Every time they have the choice between doing what their userbase would like them to do or pissing them off, without fail they're choosing the latter. It's mind-boggling.

@michaelharley@infosec.exchange Thank you so much for suggesting this browser. I've been on the hunt for a new one. I've been using LibreWolf but not fully happy with the way it feels. Will try this one - so far, so good!

@michaelharley@infosec.exchange I moved to librewolf a few months ago. (Using it now to type this). I did try Vivaldi, and I found it inadequate. I agree that it is a concern that it might not be around, and it seems there is no interest in actually innovating (fixing long-standing bugs/mis-features in firefox). I didn't know that they rejoined X... morons.

@michaelharley@infosec.exchange quick aside but does vivaldi being proprietary bother you?

@michaelharley@infosec.exchange Vivaldi never stopped posting on X - I understand not liking Mozilla, but Vivaldi is no better on this issue, at least. My understanding is that their own blocking functionality isn't as good as uBlock Origin, but that's not particularly surprising.

@michaelharley@infosec.exchange I couldn't determine your preferred platform of choice, but if it's Mac OS, I also recommend you check out Helium - https://helium.computer
