Good idea: Right to repair your own tractor https://apnews.com/article/john-deere-right-to-repair-agriculture-equipment-cb7514ffedb95c130a976af661f2bc02 For years, John Deere locked down the software on its tractors and farm equipment so that only authorized dealers could do repairs. Farmers who had been fixing their own machines for generations were suddenly forced to wait for a dealer and pay whatever they charged. That just changed. The FTC and attorneys general from five states secured a settlement that requires Deere to make its diagnostic and repair tools available to equipment owners and independent shops. It also prevents dealers from retaliating against customers who choose to fix things themselves. This came on top of a separate $99 million class action settlement earlier this year that compensated farmers who had been overcharged for repairs. It's a big win, not just for farmers, but for the broader idea that when you buy something, you should be able to fix it. #GoodIdeas #RightToRepair #Farming #ConsumerRights #FixItYourself
