i wrestled a bit with the question "what exactly constitutes a patch" but after spending most of the evening disassembling and debugging the powerbook, i decided i dont care
we can argue that the powerbook has been patched up quite a lot. and the M document as a playable parameterized meta-composition does fit my idea of a patch, even if its not the nodes-in-a-graph kind

the way this software works is you have patterns which are little piano rolls. you can play these at various speeds and lengths and apply variables like transposition, note density (i think this is chance), velocity, order and some kind of time curve. plus you have "cyclic variables" which sequence accent/legato/rhythm values independently. you get six slots for different settings per variable and an x/y grid that can modulate the slot selections. pretty interesting
