I was just considering how the anti-semitism smears used against #Corbyn perhaps set up the resistance to Israeli propaganda that aided the pro-Palestinian support.
I wonder if support for Palestine after October 7th would have been so immediate if so many people hadn't witnessed how politicians and media had brought down a good politician just to silence criticism of Israel.
The Israeli genocide in Gaza has shown more profoundly how much Western governments and media will do to maintain support for Israel, and has revealed to more people Western corruption.
But perhaps the Corbyn/Labour smears set the foundations for that. Even if people believed them at the time, they might have had some unconscious doubts at the fervour and repetitiousness of it all.
The same tactics during a genocide only work to finally erode that trust in official narratives that people might have been clinging to.

@lydiaconwell@todon.nl Agreed - the weaponising of unfounded antisemitism accusations to defend both the unconscionable actions of the Israeli government, and the short-term interests of the far-right elsewhere, was and is particularly short-sighted for anybody that cares about either the welfare of Israelis or jews in general, because it undermines the very idea of antisemitism, and disguises its reality.
