The United States does not use the Imperial measurement system. The Imperial Measurement systems was codified nearly half a century after the United States broke away (codified in 1824 for anyone curious). We use the United States Customary Units which while similar to imperial is in fact different in a variety of ways.

Either way it’s wrong. As a Canadian that works with sheet metal and has to put up with American units; it is so bloody annoying having to use decimal inches, fractional inches, sheet gauge (which varies in thickness depending on the type of metal, 10ga aluminium is not the same size as 10ga steel), AND millimetres for (some but not all) non-american customers, plus converting between each depending on who drew the plans and where we sourced the stock this month. Just use mm god damnit, why do we need four+ different systems…

It is bullcrap anyway. Metric is better in any possible way. Period.
