As a designer I lump self-insert gamers (character is player projected, in lieu of roleplay) and avatar gamers (character is roleplay of the same character heedless of campaign agreements) together, but as a gamer I don't feel the same way about them.
I've loved many self-insert gamers and looked forward to having them in a new campaign, despite always hoping they'll take an interest in roleplay, someday.
I keep the avatar people _away._ Once clocked, they're never welcome.

@SJohnRoss@dice.camp Used to be an avatar gamer, but grew out of it after my first real campaigns. Now I tend to look to the game's mechanics and/or lore to come up with something I'll like. Though I do have a recurring Star Wars (FFG) character named Tresk. I've grown attached, but I'll still make different characters where Tresk doesn't fit.
