In the last week https://archaeo.social has received 398 AI-generated spam signup requests vs. 1 genuine human one. Unfortunately we might be at the point where it's more efficient to just disable registration entirely and say, "email a mod if you want an account" :/ #MetaArchaeoSocial #MastoAdmin #Slop

@joeroe@archaeo.social while they are emailing as well, you can establish a spam filter that tosses them before you get bothered. If you want some encouragement, I’ve been running wandering.shop for years now via a somewhat human-hacked, invite-based “secret handshake” flow. It’s not been too bad on a small, niche server where the community is aligned with the idea of safeguarding itself. Yours might be similar? Happy to share more if it’s useful.
