It feels like local (EU and national level) politics is dead set on making sure small businesses and private individuals can’t just go around “easily” owning property or selling things or offering online services or sharing cat pictures or anonymously blogging about uncomfortable/controversial matters without hiring tax consultants, IT lawyers, cookie-dialogue-and-content-filtering level web developers and accountants to do most of that for them without running afoul of 10,000 regulations. I don’t even know which exact job titles to name. Sure, Amazon and Google can just throw money at that shit but maybe some of us can’t and might just give up and buy or rent or use other people’s stuff instead. Just getting set up to accept payments with Stripe drove me to the brink of despair (admittedly I have an instant existential panic allergic reaction to bureaucracy and restrictions)
