@mattsheffield@mastodon.social can recommend olivetti-mode (one limited, centered column of text) and centered-cursor-mode (overscroll, typewriter scrolling) they compose quite well together and you can activate them individually, too, if needed.
I'm interested in the joe editor selection thing you mention. Can you share pictures?

@ctietze@mastodon.social I've seen olivetti but haven't had time to try it yet. Regarding joe and selection, it follows the WordStar tradition of the cursor being independent from the selection. It's like an inverse modal selection in that you can have text selected and then type inside it or elsewhere, move anywhere, and insert/copy anywhere. Very handy for block indentations and searching while having a block selected. Much (probably too much) more on WordStar https://www.sfwriter.com/wordstar.htm
