#Highways and #airports cost orders of magnitude more to build and maintain than #railroads, #transit systems, and #ports and their associated #infrastructure, and the damage they create and incentivize is horrifying.
#Sprawl must be reversed. #Growth must be contained. People's expectations have to conform to actual reality, or our #civilization is not going to survive this century.

There is always going to be a role for motor vehicle #transportation in human civilization, but the #mistake we made was making it the #backbone of our circulation system, rather than the capillaries. We don't have #flyingcars, because the very idea of flying cars is inherently disastrous. We do not ply the global ocean trade with small yachts, because that would be utter madness. The equation does not change merely because we substitute land for air and sea.
