We then flash forward to the future, which is still the past, but the difference is the hats are taller and less triangular. It looks like the same actors are playing different people. Anyway, a dude is buying the haunted house place in Arkham, which has a tavern called "The Burning Man" but is in new england and not the desert.

It is the 19th century. The great grandson of the evil goatee man who was burned at the stake is trying to buy and/or inherit his house with his wife, and the Small Town Doctor helps him, which makes the Provincial Townfolk angry. Then later they wander the town and see a woman leading around a little girl with no eyes, which is Strange. But they don't know they're in a horror film because movies haven't been invented yet, so they just ignore it and move on. #monsterdon
