Interesting choice of photo, the Holden whatchamakalit Ute. The Ford Ranger is more often seen on the roads and in 2024-2025 we imported 42,143 tonnes (TONNES!!!) of these to drive around our roads. I see Ford is having difficulty getting their new electric Ranger certified because it’s bloody ridiculously heavy. I think it’s well into the small truck level. Madness. And once again a link to my calculations on whether EVs are heavier: https://sdc.org.nz/notes/heavy-ev @joncounts@mastodon.nz

  • Ford Ranger Super Duty still coming to NZ, but compliance delays push launch into 2027 Dave Kavermann With a 4500kg Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM), 4500kg maximum braked towing capacity, and 8000kg Gross Combined Mass (GCM), the Super Duty is classified as a heavy vehicle in New Zealand, unlike conventional utes such as the Ranger Wildtrak and Ranger Raptor. https://www.stuff.co.nz/motoring/361032126/ford-ranger-super-duty-still-coming-nz-compliance-del

@futuresprog@mastodon.nzoss.nz @joncounts@mastodon.nz wow! Impressive analysis. The only metric I would have liked to see, but which is probably effectively impossible to quantify, is something which would equate, say, a Nissan Leaf to a Ford Focus and a Tesla Model 3 to a BMW 3 Series. I.e. in the old days, one would not equate a Ford Falcon with a Daihatsu Charade on any metric other than number of wheels.
