In contrast to GLIMPSE, the first painting I invoked the symbol, the figure has her back to the heart as she contemplates life after death. 2/3

Note the death’s head emerging from the branch near the glass vessel. Essentially this is a meditation on the possibility of another shore. We won’t know until we cross that river—as we all must eventually. 3/3 https://www.michaelwhelan.com/galleries/river/
