@gabrielesvelto@mas.to is what I always say when people ask me whether I’m worried about winter biking. Am I worried about falling over? Not very. Am I worried about falling under a truck? Very.

@gabrielesvelto@mas.to we need different words Best I can come up with : Unicycling across the Alps is risky SUVs are dangerous We tend not to differentiate linguistically whether the danger is to the person taking the risk (unicycle) or imposed on a third party (SUV).

@gabrielesvelto@mas.to Cars and level crossings for me. Crashed once due to being cut off by a car and had a few scary moments. Mostly due to folks just not paying attention. My other crash while riding in the city was due to a rail eating my front wheel.

@gabrielesvelto@mas.to A car is a gun. The trigger is operated by a foot, but you're equally dead.

@gabrielesvelto@mas.to too true. Also comes to mind the injustices of the utter asymmetry of consequence, with cars growing ever more enormous and heavy. The cost of the danger and the environmental impact not being factored into the cost of vehicles, which makes them artificially affordable. The complicity of the law by simply giving a yap on the wrist in many jurisdictions for drivers who are essentially murderers. The idleness of cities to provide safe spaces for cycling. The lack of ethics of politicians who use cyclists as scapegoats. The constant opportunities for distractions while on the road: phones, vehicle touch screens, billboards etc. Probably stuff I don't know/forget. All are factors that add up to making the road a dangerous place because of cars.
