The ethics sucks, but that’s an entirely different conversation. AI companies should be taxed and forced to pay royalties to creators imho (and yes, that would instantly kill the industry)… And, it should be Opt in specifically. But, that’s not what people are arguing about when calling the kernel “AI Slop”. The bad information I’ve seen is that standards have dropped and even claims that kernel patches aren’t being reviewed properly. Some are even suggesting that the only review that happens is AI. Bad AI patches are no different to Bad human patches… And the process has always been to identify bad patches specifically. The process doesn’t need to change If anything, the standards have actually been raised because initial code reviews with AI are possibly better at identifying code that doesn’t follow coding standards, identifying common bugs (or similar patch attempts that were tried in the past but don’t work), or obvious bugs

most of the “ethics” are technology limitations, or simply issues inherent to capitalism. and by the way, there is no ethical consumption under capitalism, the same morals arise when you interact with anything that the market touches. do you think your good are produced fair and square? do you even know the amounts of labour theft that occurred for you to wipe yo ass with a toilet paper? if you gon tell me then that you oppose all that too. good, you’re a comrade of mine and a marxist it seems even tho you dont know. but now that you hold that position, you need to understand is capital u against, not some tech.

Everything is bad, behaving like an asshole because you have some sophmorish desire to stick it to the man is not doing anybody any good. Calling good quality stuff “slop” and harassing people because they used a tool is the fastest path to people ignoring you because there is no good path to appeasing you.

Linus has never been a champion of ethics. He’s a pragmatist. Not sure why anyone expects him to be Thomas Sankara or something.
