@frenck I use an automation that locks the door after 10 min if no one's home anymore. No big surprise there, I think pretty much everyone does that! 😅

@frenck first tip. Set the speed to insane. It's not much louder but it's so fast when opening. I tried opening the door when frigate detected a known face approaching but it was too inconvenient when working in front of the door. Right now I have no active automation with the door lock anymore.

@frenck A good automation I have not done yet but heard of is to disable the camera notifications for 5 minutes when the door was opened. In the things I did do, I created a script to open the door and added it to my Android Auto to quickly unlock my door when I arrive home

@frenck when I manually close the door I get a reminder of windows open and lights on. If I'm leaving home, I'll go back, if I'm going to sleep I'm ensuring everything is done.

@frenck I only recommend the insane mode if a key is hidden outside the apartment. In my case, the yellow wheel inside the lock broke. 🤷🏻♂️ Nuki is Good Choice by the way

@frenck keeping the nuki unlocked if a House member is closeby makes sense

@frenck I let Home Assistant Open the Doors to the Garden if the smoke detector alarms. I can’t use the auto unlock feature from Nuki and created a virtual lock, which unlocks for a few minutes if Home Assistant detects me coming home. But this virtual lock does not unlock the Nuki lock. It just enables a switch I have outside and if I press this switch and if the virtual lock is unlocked, it sends the unlock command to the Nuki lock. This behaves now like door locks on modern cars…

@frenck what changed your mind? I'm curious about HA as I'm planning renovation of a new home, but hesitant as to usefulness and wary of unwanted consequences (eg re privacy).
