I can now go sailing with it too :p I think I got as far as possible for now though. Hopefully the qt people will add support for unix sockets, so the satellite info will be easily available (I suggested that), and also fix the data issues (I will suggest that). If/when that happens, I could make this an actual app, if anyone would be interrested. #postmarketOS #plasma_mobile #qml #qt #linuxonmobile

So I created this nice "Sky view" inspired by an android app named SailDroid, for my GPS test app. But I do not get the data to put the sattelites in the view - azimuth and elevation for each sattelite. Likely because of the same unsolved issue I have with missing data, see in the thread. I may end up needing to go away from pure qml, due to the silly qt library not supporting the normal unix socket :( #linux #linuxonmobile #postmarketos #qt #qml #plasma_mobile

... Now with a fancy dashboard and a toolbar in the bottom. I have studied NMEA documentation and compared to the output from my TCP socket, and AFAICS it is ok. All the NMEA sentences for sattelites in view, accuracy etc is there. But for some reason #qt does not use it, even it claims so in its documentation. The competition ('Sattelites' app) shows all this just fine, and also the fix type (2D/3D), which I can also see in my data but not in the QtPositioning docs. I'm not sure about the data for the skyview (azimuth and elevation for sattelites) though - it may not be present. Anyone wants to try? It's a little tricky because of the TCP socket hack, so a few commands needs to be executed, and you need qml6 and gnns-share. #plasma_mobile #postmarketos #qt #qml #gps #linuxonmobile

My qml GPS tool saga continues ... I tried piping the gnss-share.sock data into a file instead of using a TCP socket, because it can be done entirely in userspace. Command: ```socat -u UNIX-CONNECT:/var/run/gnss-share.sock OPEN:tmpfile,trunc,append=0``` A very unscientific test tells me that the file adds up to 0.375 M/hour (1K/sec). At least for testing purposes this is OK. Then I can use a file:/// nmea source for qml SatelliteSource. Still missing the usual data though - I actually suspect this is a bug in qt. #gps #plasma_mobile #postmarketOS #qt #qml #linux
